Craig Ross

Innovations manager: RLabs

Eight years ago Craig Ross was on a highway to nowhere. Drugs and crime ruled his life. His dream of becoming a professional footballer had "gone up in smoke. But 2007 was turnaround time. He took himself off to a rehabilitation centre and, as part of his recovery, did a course in social media for social change. That's how his love affair with social media began. Ross subsequently joined RLabs, an organisation that empowers communities through social media. He started out as an ideas man, and later initiated their Social Media Factory project, which he now runs. It's his way of saying "sorry to the people he once harmed. Ross admits he still has a long way to go, but thanks God for giving him a second chance. His biggest lesson: "To do good. No one can harm you if you do good. Sibongile Nkosi
