Talk show host
Africa started out as an accountant, but ended up as a much-loved talk-show host on radio.
The 567 Cape Talk and Talk Radio 702 host was born in Guguletu and has lived in the Mother City all his life. He studied accounting at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and then worked for the Cape Town office of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He also taught some of the first-year MBChB class for a number of years in professional and personal development. He ran HIV/Aids workshops for the first year Health Sciences class at UCT and went on to teach the same class professional development.
Teaching became a stepping-stone from accountant to radio. Africa first became a freelance presenter at Cape Talk and 702 in 2004. He now produces the afternoon show. He has even starred in Leon Schuster’s Mama Jack, playing himself. But there is more to Africa than simply showbiz. He has also given lectures on traditional and alternative healing to the faculties of health sciences at UCT and the University of Stellenbosch.
Africa claims to be a master of his own kitchen and has been known to host amazing dinner and cocktail parties. His biggest culinary success was roasting a whole cow on an open fire for 200 people in the middle of a hot day.
