Ciko Thomas

Executive director of Jo'burg City Auto

Ciko is an executive director of Jo’burg City Auto, a highly successful business he owns with three partners and South Africa’s first 100% black-owned BMW dealership.

Before being bitten by the entrepreneurship bug three years ago, Ciko spent more than 11 years as a marketing professional with experience in strategic marketing, brand management, trade and sales operations. He has worked on the repositioning of Carling Black Label, the relaunch of the Lion lager brand and in the creation of a stratified segmentation model for Absa’s middle market.

Ciko is a board member of the Communication and Advertising Forum for Empowerment. He lectures at the Gordon Institute for Business Science, where he specialises in entrepreneurship, innovation and marketing. He is a partner in a black economic empowerment investment company and is a director of the Enterprise Connection, which is an IT services, software and hardware provider to medium and large corporates. Ciko has a BSc from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from Wits University.

He also studied general management at the Erasmus school at Rotterdam’s school of management.
