Fanney, a gay filmmaker, has brought to life the issues confronting youngsters in the townships.
His eight-minute film Mountain Shade sensitively touches on the journey of a youth from the city to his circumcision in the rural lands as h.e tries to make sense of family values. Fanney began working as a dancer at the age of 15 and worked as a choreographer and event manager for the late star Brenda Fassie. He received the 2003 Vuka Award for raw talent and studied at the film and drama academy AFDA. He conceived and directed the talkshow series Intimate Connectionz for SABC1 in 2005, hosted by the celebrity Somizi Mhlongo.
Mountain Shade was screened at the Out in Africa Gay and Lesbian Film festival in 2006.
