Given Nkosi

Opera Singer

New opera star on the block is tenor Given.

He started singing at an early age at school and in youth choirs, participating in many competitions. In 2001 and 2002, he was chosen as the Tirisano School Chora Eisteddfod national champion, and in 2003 and 2004 was national champion of the Post Office Eisteddfod. Given has been involved in numerous opera productions and concert performances appearing among others as soloist with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2005, Given won first prize in the Schock Competition at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

He is currently studying for the performer’s diploma at UCT under the direction of Professor Angelo Gobbato and Professor Brad Liebl. In 2006, he made his mark at the Miagi festival of classical music, devoted to the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
