Archaic kwela dating back to the 1950s gets a breath of new life in the form of Kwela Tebza, three brothers who hail from a musical family.
Tebogo Edward Lerole, Mpho Abram Lyle Lerole and Tshepo Lennox Lerole are the country’s hottest new pennywhistlers. The three sons of pioneer pennywhistler Elias “Shamba” Lerole were taught by their father and have been a hit in Austria, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, France, Brazil, Sweden and Abijan. They have picked up prestigious awards including one for best instrumentalists in Falun, Sweden.
They have recorded two albums and have adapted their style to the classical tunes of Mozart.
