Presley Chweneyagae


Presley is now South Africa’s official tsotsi, having played the lead character in the 2006 Oscar,winning movie of the same name. He was born in the North West in 1984, the second eldest of four children. He gravitated to theatre with no formal training.

In his youth, Presley acted in school plays and later in community theatre projects. He shone in his work at the Mmabana Arts Foundation, the North West Arts Council, even playing Puck in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Later Presley teamed up with award-winning playwright Paul Grootboom to create the cutting-edge drama’s about the country’s violent subcultures: Cards, and Relativity: Township Stories.
