Portfolio Manager: South African Tourism
Tumaini is South African Tourism’s Portfolio Manager for Africa (Domestic) and the Middle East.
His motivation for his job lies in the challenge of encouraging South Africans to travel their own country. Leading up to 2010, he has the job of exposing more and more tourism hotspots to locals and putting together promotions that get South Africans to take a Sho’t Left. Tumaini grew up in exile in Tanzania and Botswana, before settling in Mafikeng, which he calls home.
He started as a rookie in an advertising agency, before moving on to radio where he launched Kfm’s Johannesburg office. He also did a stint at e.tv before heading to the now-defunct TV Africa. It was at TV Africa that the African love affair of Tumaini, who was born in Dar es Salaam, began. His jump to the tourism sector was a natural progression in his career. He joined South African Tourism soon after the organisation launched the tourism growth strategy – where the importance of the African market was becoming quite apparent.
