Unathi Batyashe-Fillis


Unathi is a journalist with Highveld Stereo.

The Kimberlyite swapped her home town for Johannesburg a few years ago and how she has sparkled. In addition to sending her dulcet tones out over the airwaves at Highveld, she also reports for sister station Talk Radio 702 Eyewitness News.

During the opening of Parliament last year, she co-anchored a national government programme featuring the country’s ministers and leading politicians. Unathi, who started her career at the Diamond Fields Advertiser, is also the presenter and co-producer of PSL Kings and the voice behind Supersport’s soccer programme Up the Bucks.

With her husband, Denzil Fillis, Unathi is involved in translating works by Brazil’s literary hero, Paulo Coelho, into Xhosa and subsequently into other South African languages.

The couple has a seven-month old daughter named Khanyi.
