Chia-Chao Wu is the son of Taiwanese entrepreneurs.

In 2002, he co-founded Empowerdex with Vuyo Jack and steered the organisation into the sphere of BEE research with the release of South Africa’s first empowerment- based survey, better known today as the Empowerdex Top Empowerment Companies survey. In addition to being a chartered accountant, Wu is a chartered financial analyst with a master’s degree in commerce.

He spent four years lecturing finance and investment at post-graduate level at the University of the Witwatersrand on a part-time basis while completing his articles. Wu is currently the MD of Empowerdex. In January this year, he was appointed as a visiting professor by the University of the Free State’s school of management. He also researched and co-authored Empowerdex’s first book, Trailblazers: South Africa’s Champions of Change, which documents the lives of the 50 most powerful black directors on the JSE.

Recently, Wu founded the Taiwanese Youth Economic Forum to promote co-operation between Taiwanese and South African companies.
