Nazmeera Moola is the South African economist for investment bank Merrill Lynch. She researches and comments on the South African economy. Her work includes studies on the growing black middle class, the impact of government's proposed R372-billion infrastructure spending on companies and the likely result of the government_s current drive to curb import parity pricing. She was awarded the Reuter's Economist of the Year award in October 2005. Moola was rated the top analyst in South Africa by the Extel survey of European emerging-market fund managers. She was also ranked second in the Financial Mail analysts' survey in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, she was rated the top South African economist by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals. Prior to August 2003, Moola worked in Merrill Lynch's London office, covering global emerging markets' strategy. She was recently appointed to the board of DaimlerChrysler South Africa
