Vusi Mhlanzi, Investec's head of debt origination, was named the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals' 2006 Top Professional in Debt Capital Markets. He joined African Harvest Finance in 1997 as a junior analyst. Two years later, he joined Royal Bank of Canada Dominion Securities, where he was involved in assisting state-owned entities in South Africa to raise debt in the offshore market. From there, he joined Rand Merchant Bank's debt origination team in 2001, where he was responsible for the structuring, issue and placement of commercial paper and bonds. He continued his focus on debt markets when he joined Investec in 2002. His responsibilities included managing and structuring bond, commercial paper and securitisation issues and facilitating the placement of such issues in the market. After a stint at Andisa Capital between 2004 and 2006, focusing on the Botswana market, he rejoined Investec. Vusi enjoys going to gym, playing and watching soccer and socialising with friends.
